Το ” West End Girls ” είναι γραμμένο από τους Neil Tennant και Chris Lowe και κυκλοφόρησε δύο φορές ως single. Οι στίχοι του αφορούν την τάξη και τις πιέσεις της ζωής στην πόλη που εμπνεύστηκαν εν μέρει από το ποίημα του TS Eliot The Waste Land .
Γενικά έτυχε καλής αποδοχής από τους σύγχρονους κριτικούς μουσικής και έχει αναφερθεί συχνά ως αποκορύφωμα στην καριέρα του ντουέτου.
Η πρώτη έκδοση του έγινε από τον Bobby Orlando και κυκλοφόρησε στο αποτύπωμα της Bobcat Records της Columbia Records τον Απρίλιο του 1984, και έγινε επιτυχία σε κλαμπ στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και σε ορισμένες ευρωπαϊκές χώρες.
Μετά την υπογραφή του ντουέτου με την EMI , το τραγούδι ηχογραφήθηκε ξανά με τον παραγωγό Stephen Hague για το πρώτο τους στούντιο άλμπουμ, Please .
Τον Οκτώβριο του 1985 κυκλοφόρησε η νέα έκδοση, φτάνοντας στο νούμερο ένα στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες το 1986.
