Οι κριτικοί έχουν αποκαλέσει τους Smiths ως ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά Ποστ πανκ συγκροτήματα που βγήκαν από την ανεξάρτητη Βρετανική μουσική σκηνή τη δεκαετία του 1980..
